How can I avoid dental treatment? Posted on November 5, 2017 by Rebecca Nicholas Modern-day dentistry is all about prevention – stopping decay from even happening in the first place. The best ways to do this are: Keeping to a low sugar diet. Check the labels on food you eat. Try to avoid sugary drinks in between meals including fruit juice which is packed full of sugar. Reduce the frequency of sugar intake, in other words, don’t snack on sugary snacks throughout the day as you will be constantly exposing your teeth to sugar acids causing decay. Use a fluoride toothpaste – a minimum of 1450pm Fluoride should be in your toothpaste if you are above the age of 6. If you seem to develop holes more than average, your dentist may wish to prescribe you a high strength toothpaste known as Duraphat. Regular brushing of the teeth, and flossing if possible. You can also use little toothpicks called TePes – your hygienist can show you what size to use where. When you brush your teeth, spit the toothpaste out but don’t rinse it away with mouthwash or water. Leave the toothpaste in your mouth for as long as possible so the fluoride is strengthening the teeth for longer. It’s best to brush them right before bed.
