I have toothache and I haven’t seen a dentist in years – what should I do?

A toothache can be very severe – it’s described as one of the worst pains we can endure. If you have a throbbing pain which is keeping you awake at night it could be a dental abscess.

At Beech House Dental Practice we endeavour to see you as soon as possible. We might need to take a look at the tooth and possibly take an x-ray. Before we do anything we will go through all the

associated risks and alternative treatment options. We will always give you a cost estimate beforehand so you don’t get any nasty surprises.

Usually, when we numb the tooth up we will use some anaesthetic gel beforehand. Most patients say they don’t feel a thing. The instantaneous relief from a toothache can be extraordinary – and it gives you time to think clearly without a raging pain!

Once we have reached a decision about how best to treat your tooth we will either proceed that day or book you back in to finish the treatment if it’s going to take a bit longer.

We will then recommend that you are seen for a routine dental check-up so that we can check that the rest of your mouth is in tip-top condition and to make sure you never get an abscess again.
